1 month

Today, it is exactly 1 month since I left Kuching to study here.

As you know, I'm in Terengganu, studying in INSTEP.

It's a 1st time for me to live in a hostel, as in making it a HOME where I have to return to everyday. It's not easy, being a kid who is spoilt with the comforts of his home.

Approximately 20 KM from the 'city' centre of Kuala Terengganu (KT), this campus is a very big area. You can see how big it is in Google Maps, just type in
'INSTEP, Kuala Terengganu'.

I'm being sponsored fully to study here. Sponsored by PETRONAS. Meals and accomodation provided, plus monthly allowance of RM 250. Sounds good?

I stay in the hostel, Blok T, which has a mix of Sarawakians and Sabahans plus 1 Kedahan. It's kinda like a longhouse in Sarawak, only made of concrete, and is small.

My room is T20 and my roommates are both Sarawakians, one from Dalat, Mukah and another from Bau, Kuching.

Facilities are scattered all around the campus, which most are in a distance of 5 to 15 minutes. Mode of transport : walk!
The dining hall is about 5 minutes away while the class rooms are about 15 minutes away from the hostel. It is not fun especially when the weather is scorching hot and / or rainy.

Internet facilities? A cyber cafe is opened for use, with very sucky PCs. No choice but that's all that is provided for use at RM 2.00 per hour.

Oh well, they're closing now. More next time.

What's Happening Now...

It's been a week and 3 days now.

Trying to adapt Terengganu as my new home. I've just enrolled myself into INSTEP PETRONAS (Institut Teknologi Petroleum PETRONAS) in Kuala Terengganu. Life is tough here.

I never thought it would be this hard. Far from comfort, friends, family and love, it has not been easy.

I'm attending a program called Program Teknologi Petroleum, which would qualify me to be a technician in the oil and gas industry. It's not a diploma or Degree, just Certificate. I'm staying in the Institute's hostel, cramped with 2 other roommates, in a room the size of 1/3 of a standard classroom.

Friends are not easy to find. Even my roommates, they're just acquaintances. Everyone keeps to themselves. Cliques are seen, with people of the same school and those with common liking, i.e. smoking. Even fellow Sarawakians are ignorant of each other.

Classes have been going on since Sunday (weekend here is Friday and Saturday). I think that's the only thing I like so far.

Well, wait for my next post to know more.

Welcome!

Hey guys, welcome. Hope you enjoy my posts. =)
